Frequently Asked Questions

This list of questions and answers is not comprehensive, please feel free to ask your provider in person for more information.

Q: Why do I often get voicemail when I call the office?

A: We're a small practice and are often with our patients when you call (585) 266-1220. We do check our secure voicemail many times during the day. For an extreme emergency or if you feel you are in labor, call our answering service: (585) 258-1923.

Q: Are you accepting new patients?

A: Both Joan and Catherine are accepting new patients. Dr. Howitt is only accepting new patients on a referral basis at this time.

Q: Do I have to see all of the providers, or can I just see my own?

A: For a GYN visit, we try to schedule you with the provider of your choice depending on availablity (your own and the provider's). For prenatal care, we like you to meet all of the providers.

Q: Will my provider deliver my baby?

A: Catherine and Joan share call for deliveries, so either of them may deliver your baby.  Dr. Howitt is no longer taking call for OB patients (she is very tired!) but the group of doctors that work at Rochester General Hospital have generously agreed to provide coverage for women that may need medical intervention.  We have worked with these doctors for many years now -- they have provided coverage for Dr. Howitt when she was on vacation and have been extremely supportive of our practice and unique style of care.

Q: Where will I deliver my baby?

A: We have admitting privileges at Rochester General Hospital exclusively.  Rochester General is the only locally certified Baby-Friendly facility. There is a long history of midwifery care and integration of midwifery values at Rochester General. We are very pleased to be affiliated with this progressive institution and to be able to attend births there.

Q: Do you do home births?

A: No.

Q: Do you have 3D/4D ultrasound?

A: Yes!

Q: Do you have GYN ultrasound?

A: Yes!

Do you answer questions via email?

A: No, but we answer questions via our secure voicemail at (585) 266-1220.

Q: Who do I contact if I have questions about my bill?

A: Gail Falco handles our billing. You can contact her at (585) 865-8643 if you have any billing questions.
